Illustration Friday: Monster
This is Sydney. He's a telepathic chameleon space horse. He'd never thought of himself as a monster until the other horses and zebras that he encountered on Earth started to call him one. Sydney has found it impossible to blend in and sadly left the company of the equine herds he'd hoped would welcome him. Now he lives with me, where he is appreciated for his uniqueness. He is mostly happy, but I know that he still feels lonely for his own kind.
Sydney is a little shy and declined to pose for me. But he kindly consented to my drawing him from a model. This drawing was therefore made from a pipecleaner, aluminum foil, wooden bead and "scooby string" model that I made of Sydney when I first spied him in our garden. Drawn with marker pens. 25.3.06

Bubblegum, you wouldn't think it, looking at him, but Sydney eats like a horse!! (tee hee, couldn't resist that...) His favourite food is mashed potatoes with smarties.
Sydney is very beautiful indeed and whenever he feels lonley he should try to remember how he is a fabulous one of a kind :) lovely work great charachter
It is not so monstrous but lovely...
Poor Sidney
who's happened to struggle in a world filled with zebras and horses...
But maybe s/he was betrayed by his/her telepathic powers, and no one said anything, but just thought of.
Be careful!
This is wonderful! Uninhibited and expressive! Love it.
Sydney is beautiful. I hope those other horse get their shit together and learn what a great guy Sydney is. Love the post Love.

Love it! Great little monster. So sweet with a lovely personality.
Thanks for checking out my blog Tammy.
He is the sweetest looking chameleon space horse i've ever seen, O.K., he's the only one i've ever seen, the story/history of Sydney is sad but at least you adopted him, love his cool mane
Mashed potatoes with Smarties!!!
But has he ever tried...dried shrimp on Mexican Vanilla ice-cream?
Sydney is wonderful, and bursting with creative energy.
He might be able to pass as a punked out Snuffaluffagus.
Thanks for your comments on my blog, glad you liked my monster illustration. Your little dude is very cute, not a scary monster but a cute monster.
Sydney has really cool hairstyle. I like him.
Tammy, thanks for visiting my blog.

what a fun monster!! Love you city painting below also!
Ha ha ha!!! This is great! Sydney's awesome! I think that he'd make a great character for a book. Imagine that...written and illustrated by Tammy Hanna. This could be the character that does it for you...seriously!! I love it!
Sydney is very cool, I'm sure the other horses were very jealous of his lovely mane!
Pablo very sad for him. Please say to Sydney he can come stay my kneepit anydays. We have no smarties but here have many potatoes. We make mash potato fiesta for you special, OK?
Love - Pablo.
Go, Sydney! Thanks for stopping by my blog and commenting. Otherwise, I might not have found your site, which is beautiful! Scrolled up and down its breadth. Sydney has a wonderful story and a good friend in you.
Thanks everyone. Sydney is overwhelmed with the outpouring of affection for him. He blushed when I told him!
maybe a telepathic horse could find fulfillment in difficult paths.
excuse my language but I just read pablo's blog and it's making my english even funnier than it already was.
(^_*)
i like your "monster" that isn't a monster and thanks for your comment on my "monster" that wasn't a monster.
Love the story - such a great surreal idea and the drawing is very cool too.
I just visited Pablo as well (see comment above) and it looks like Sydney should definately go visit - those guys were made for each other.
Syndey is definitely one of those cute monsters! Love the store...and the illo! Very nice!

Wow, I love sydney! He ROCKS!
sydney is charming, in a most perculiar way, i like the way his nose area seems to twist around, it makes me imagine what kind of voice he could have. ...has a camel named humphrey passed by your area recently? maybe they could be good companions...! i'd love to see that combination!

Hi Maethebear, wow that is freaky! I have that box set already, my boyfriend got it off ebay a while ago, we've watched nearly all of the films already. I loved Princess Mononoke and My Neighbor Totoro. And yes, I'm vegan too! And went to see Beth Orton recently. Wow, I always knew I was living in a parallel universe!!
Everyone else, thanks for your comments.
Na, I'll get Humph and Sydney talking...
Liberty, I've been doing illustration friday since the topic chair, can't remember how long ago that was!!
Thanks for the comments on my blog. I like the playfulness of your work.
Great work indeed!
oh sydney! you are a telepathic chameleon space horse after my own heart. tammy he is really charming and i love all the details of his life and diet.
Man, that is the most creative creature I've seen in a while. A telepathic chameleon space horse. Ha! What a magical, imaginative combo.
Boy, don't we make monsters of critters that are different. Or different from what we expect.
Love your journal cats and drawing in color assignments. Are you being tutored by e-mail, snail mail, or in person. My daughter just returned from Seville... I should do some drawings from her photos... Thanks for the inspiration.
Thanks guys. :)
Sultry painterwoman: I'm being tutored by snail mail. I send my pictures in a great big tube with a commentary and my tutor writes comments back.
Love the quirkiness and whimsicality!
I think Sydney is quite beautiful! Perhps you need to make a friend to keep him company...a sensitive and colorful monster such as Sydney shouldn't be alone:>
WOW! I love it!
Great story. Love the illo.
Very cute and funny!

Good to know you have room for folks that don´t quite blend in :)
Love that Sid!
I love this guy.
A telepathic, chameleon, space horse.
You have entirely too much imagination and should be forced to share!
ha ha! Great work. Drawing is fun.
MjM
Very creative story...I feel a bit sorry for Sydney....everyone wants to fit it! He would make a great plush toy!
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I like Sydney and his purple eyes. I really like the city drawing below Sygney and the colors you used.
..Arh, you can tell the telepathic ones they are always green & make you grin from ear to ear.
I have sympathy though for Sydney. Ive never got on well with Zebras either.
