Illustration Friday: Monster

This is Sydney. He's a telepathic chameleon space horse. He'd never thought of himself as a monster until the other horses and zebras that he encountered on Earth started to call him one. Sydney has found it impossible to blend in and sadly left the company of the equine herds he'd hoped would welcome him. Now he lives with me, where he is appreciated for his uniqueness. He is mostly happy, but I know that he still feels lonely for his own kind.

Sydney is a little shy and declined to pose for me. But he kindly consented to my drawing him from a model. This drawing was therefore made from a pipecleaner, aluminum foil, wooden bead and "scooby string" model that I made of Sydney when I first spied him in our garden. Drawn with marker pens. 25.3.06Posted by Picasa

It is not so monstrous but lovely...
Poor Sidney
who's happened to struggle in a world filled with zebras and horses...
But maybe s/he was betrayed by his/her telepathic powers, and no one said anything, but just thought of.
Be careful!

He is the sweetest looking chameleon space horse i've ever seen, O.K., he's the only one i've ever seen, the story/history of Sydney is sad but at least you adopted him, love his cool mane

Mashed potatoes with Smarties!!!

But has he ever tried...dried shrimp on Mexican Vanilla ice-cream?

Sydney is wonderful, and bursting with creative energy.

He might be able to pass as a punked out Snuffaluffagus.

sydney is charming, in a most perculiar way, i like the way his nose area seems to twist around, it makes me imagine what kind of voice he could have. ...has a camel named humphrey passed by your area recently? maybe they could be good companions...! i'd love to see that combination!

Hi Maethebear, wow that is freaky! I have that box set already, my boyfriend got it off ebay a while ago, we've watched nearly all of the films already. I loved Princess Mononoke and My Neighbor Totoro. And yes, I'm vegan too! And went to see Beth Orton recently. Wow, I always knew I was living in a parallel universe!!

Everyone else, thanks for your comments.

Man, that is the most creative creature I've seen in a while. A telepathic chameleon space horse. Ha! What a magical, imaginative combo.

Boy, don't we make monsters of critters that are different. Or different from what we expect.
Love your journal cats and drawing in color assignments. Are you being tutored by e-mail, snail mail, or in person. My daughter just returned from Seville... I should do some drawings from her photos... Thanks for the inspiration.

Heartful said...

Thanks guys. :)

Sultry painterwoman: I'm being tutored by snail mail. I send my pictures in a great big tube with a commentary and my tutor writes comments back.

A telepathic, chameleon, space horse.

You have entirely too much imagination and should be forced to share!

..Arh, you can tell the telepathic ones they are always green & make you grin from ear to ear.

I have sympathy though for Sydney. Ive never got on well with Zebras either.
