Clarence (on the right), helps Rosy adjust to freedom after her narrow escape from a cosmetics farm. She hopes that one day, she will return to her natural colour, though she can't remember what it is. Clarence says he likes her pink anyway. I think the two of them will be very happy together in their meadow.
It's been a warm sunny September day, and the last day of my two week summer break before returning to work tomorrow. I was wondering what to do with myself while Paul watched the Brazil v Argentina friendly and he said, "Why don't you paint a sunflower?" So I did. This is only the second time I've tried painting with acrylics and I absolutely loved it, not least because mistakes are so easy to paint over! If you'd like to see the different steps of how this painting came to be, please scroll down. Thanks.
This painting was inspired by this photowhich I saw over at shadows and clouds. It's also the first time I used acrylic paints. (Pencil, watercolour and acrylic on aquafine paper)
This drawing is based on a woven sculpture created by Sophia Gabbitas. It was drawn from a photo, in pencil. Her work reminds me of places of refuge, and is deeply comforting.
