Disaster Averted

                        of a very steep and full escalator at Holborn tube, a wheel on Jake's pushchair got stuck.  I said "Oh shit"
and quickly and quietly did a sideways

                                                                             u
                                                                            ff
                                                                           l
                                                                        e
                                                                     off the escalator, pulling Jake & pushchair with me.  While I was shuffling, there was a mini-pile up of bodies behind us, forcingpeopleevenclosertogetherthanbefore.  And yet, the only exclamation I heard was "Oh". 

As soon as we were out of the way, the bodies proceeded as before, a line of giant upright ants
                              rushing
                                     rushing
                                            rushing. 

I couldn't help myself and said out loud, "We're fine, thanks for asking."  Nobody even looked.  I suppose I should be grateful.  It could have been worse and we could have been flattened, or lynched.

Blerg. I hate those kinds of "crushing" moments on public transportation where everyone is rushing and less human than normal. Paris metros are probably the reason I have a fear of crowds. I'm glad you're safe. My kid used to be afraid of escalators, still is but pretends not to be.

Nice use of space! Ah, the joys of the Underground (though I do miss it - the Underground in general of course, not the crap bits!).

I nearly tipped my eldest out of his pram on an escalator when he was a babe - scary stuff. Typical no one should stop to check you were okay! On the positive side, I love how you've written and laid this piece out.

I've not been much of a regular visitor of late, but the blog looks fantastic! Am loving the wee blue felt cat. Looks like you are being incredibly busy, and well done on the short story. Will pop over and read it xxx
